![]() Any fight where there's one less enemy after you get away than when you started, you can win eventually. The basic approach to every fight is to draw aggro from as few enemies as possible, get them to attack your animal companion and then unload all your weapons into one enemy. This is not good advice for animal lovers. I tend to have an implement (wand/rod) in my backpack in case I'll be fighting pierce-immune enemies. I also carry a bow for more consistent DPS which can be used to win easy fights 'traditionally'. You'll be firing all your guns, without waiting to reload. His job is to get punched, and the bear has HP.Įquipment-wise, you want big guns for volley damage. I'll cover a few later-game choices in the game-specific sections.įor the animal companion, I went with a bear. Again, volley damage and the ability to escape. The Ranger abilities you'll value early on are Wounding Shot and Vicious Aim. Given that you're meant to never die, getting out of trouble is very important. These increase your volley damage and help you get out of trouble. In decreasing order of importance, the key talents early on are Fast Runner, Quick Switch and Arms Bearer. After that, take as many points as you dare out of Resolve and Constitution to put into Intelligence. Stats-wise, I maxed Might and Perception. ![]() ![]() The class gives you an animal companion, which can be used to draw fire. The race gives you an extra weapon slot, which increases your volley damage by a lot. I picked to play an Island Aumaua Ranger. The two characters were as identical as I could make them, with the non-Trial one usally slightly worse (if I got a good random item on the real character, I left that slot empty on the test character). If I couldn't win reliably without Trial, I didn't try it with Trial. I ran two characters through the whole game. Run away if they don't die, so you don't either. General approach, at a glanceĭistract people with fluffy animals, shoot them in the face. I'll only be saying the stuff I think you'll need, and it'll get lighter as the game goes on (where you should know what you're doing). I've broken it down into general advice and then Act specific points. This is designed with the v2.03 balance in mind, but shouldn't change too much given the draft v3 patch notes (not that I'm ever doing this again). It's going to be a huge wall of text, and it's partly being written as a mental retrospective for me. When I was originally starting to try this, a lot of the information I found was very out-of-date, so I thought I'd write a short guide to help anyone else with a lot of spare time on their hands. Tonight, I finally got the Triple Crown Solo achievement, which is for the combination of Path of the Damned, Trial of Iron and Expert modes, without bringing any team mates along.
