![]() ![]() This is probably the best first step as it won’t cost you anything as you can get trial versions of the software. This can be fed into the DAC using a usb cable. Run Roon core (which is their name for the Roon server) and Hqplayer on your MacBook and control it using the Roon app on a tablet. You can also keep the computer running the server software in a different room to your hifi.ġ. The advantage with this is that the computer is isolated from the DAC so you don’t get the crap from your computer going to your DAC via the usb cable. If you use your Mac, you would have Hqplayer running on the Mac as the server app and then stream over your local network to the Sonore using NAA, which is the protocol used by hq player. The Sonore optical rendu is used as a Roon end point or a client if you only use hq player. That way you can get the best interface and the best upsampling. You can use the upsampling facility in it or integrate it with HQ player. I ended up using Roon which has by far the nicest interface and was the most stable. I gave up on Audirvana as I found it quite buggy However from my experience at least I could tell no difference between Audirvana and Roon. I tried this before Roon as it has been said it sounds better. It is much nicer to use than hq player, but is not so good at upsampling. I tried Audirvana which has limited upsampling facilities. There is a remote app that you can use to control the program running on your Mac using a tablet. You can stream from Qobuz using Hqplayer player, but the application is horrible to use in my opinion. it won’t cost you anything to see if you can get it to work and if you like it. It’s not the simplest software to setup, so it does help to know a bit about computers. You can give it a try for free as the trial allows you to use it for 30 mins after which you need to reconnect. There is also a lag of several seconds up to about 30 seconds depending upon how much number crunching you are doing. You will need a more powerful computer to do that. However it wont work at the highest sampling rates and with some of the conversion algorithms. HQ player will run on your Mac and can connect to the DAC using usb. The settings associated with each algorithm are slightly different, but both will allow you to define the multiple of the sampling rate to be applied (x2, x4 etc.) as well as to fine-tune various filters, essentially to neutralize the artifacts that result from these operations.I have tried hq player, Audirvana, Dirac Live and Roon using a Mac mini m1 and Sonore optical rendu. This will facilitate the DAC’s work by giving it a stream that contains more precise points at the base. You can use Audirvāna to carry out this operation upstream: it will benefit from the computer’s much greater computing power, and with a high-performance algorithm. They therefore systematically oversample the signal just before the actual conversion, but work with limited computing power and more or less powerful algorithms, particularly for chip-cost and latency reasons. Indeed, almost all DACs today on the market operate on a very-high-frequency switching-principle with a resolution of only a few bits. This can improve sound quality, sometimes quite noticeably, depending on your system’s converter and the settings you choose. You can oversample your audio files directly in Audirvāna before playback on your system, using one of the two built-in high-performance algorithms: SOX (SoundExchange) and R8 Brain. I’m not sure I’ll accept monthly payments and constant updates after all these problems. It has been a “false start” since the Facebook announcement.Īs far as I am concerned, there is still the subscription issue. If AS is still not stable for you until July, it’s probably best to forget about it for now, stick with version 3.5 and wait until September without getting upset. If not with this version, I hope it will be for you in the next one. The remote control can wait if development time is devoted to making Audirvana stable for all users.įrankly, it’s worth waiting for the problems to be fixed. Text is small, but it’s not problematic on a 24" 1920*1080. I’m only using 2 USB DAC’s and line out from my Mac. I understand, as this is my first day to enjoy Audirvana as an audiophile player… after 20 days of problems (trial activated on 6/06, and due to repeated crashes, the analysis was only completed yesterday). ![]()
